October is the month to change the batteries in all your Smoke and CO detectors.

The average life span of a CO detector is 7 years, after that they may give false alarms or no alarm at all. Smoke detectors also have a life span. Smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years to insure they will function when needed.

All residents should check the date of manufacture and if the date is longer than 7 years for CO detectors and longer than 10 years for Smoke detectors they should be replaced.

Reminder: CO detectors and Smoke detectors are not a lifetime item.
